As we said on Monday, during the festive season many
businesses organise Christmas parties, lunches and after work drinks for their
employees to attend. Whilst no one wants to dampen the fun atmosphere it is
worth reminding your employees of the company’s social media policy and
specifically the following points:
- Employees
should not post material on social media sites that could adversely affect the
company’s reputation.
- Employees
should be careful when posting material on social media sites whilst under the
influence. Risqué photos with
colleagues or comments made about
colleagues may seem funny at the time but in the cold light of day they could
in fact be acts of harassment or discriminatory behaviour for which the
employer may be liable.
- Unacceptable
behaviour (i.e. a breach of the policy) will be dealt with in accordance with
the company’s disciplinary policy.
With the growing use of social media it is a good idea to
keep your policy up to date. If you do not have a social media policy or you would
like your policy reviewed, the employment team at Cripps would be happy to
help.
